Chapter Goals

Vision Statement

Our vision is to provide Florida’s children and their families with the safest, most efficient, comprehensive supervised visitation centers, staffed with qualified personnel and volunteers.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Florida Chapter of the Supervised Visitation Network is to develop and maintain a statewide network of supervised visitation centers in order to collaborate and promote quality supervised visitation services throughout Florida.

Florida Chapter bylaws require that all members submit a copy of their MOU/letter of agreement with the courts or an affidavit of compliance with the Florida Supreme Court Minimum Standards as a condition of membership.

Objectives

The Florida Chapter of the Supervised Visitation Network is a member in good standing with the national and international organization known as the Supervised Visitation Network.

The purpose of the Florida Chapter of the Supervised Visitation Network is to provide communication among its members pertaining to the delivery of supervised visitation services, provide continuing education and technical assistance to its members, educate the public, other professionals and policy makers about supervised visitation services and provide any other services and information as may be appropriate.

The Florida Chapter of the Supervised Visitation Network’s values reflects those of the SVN. Valuing respect, integrity ethical behavior and excellence in service as well as:

  • We value the relationships between children and their families.
  • We believe children deserve a safe and friendly environment for supervised visitation services.
  • We believe children and families deserve the best care and services that supervised visitation centers can offer.
  • We believe that every effort should be made locally, statewide and federally to adequately fund court certified supervised visitation centers.
  • We believe in providing families supervised visitation centers by utilizing well trained, nonjudgmental staff members and volunteers.
  • We believe in providing a diverse composition of staff, advisory boards, and governing bodies to design the policies, missions and visions of individual supervised visitation centers.

      Supervised Visitation Peer Review and Mentoring
      Peer Review serves to reinforce service delivery practices and the organizational expertize of supervised visitation providers’ adherence to Minimum Standards /Best Practices as well as to provide an opportunity to extend support and share problem-solving ideas for challenges and successes. Peer review includes matching new program peer participants and seasoned peer facilitators who can also act as mentors. Mentoring can be delivered as a combination of training, advising and coaching. Training, tells you how to do it, advising consist of sharing suggestions on how to apply the training to your specific situations and with coaching the mentor will help you find your own insights and solutions for focus areas to meet best practices in service delivery.
      Peer Reviews include:
      1. Opportunities to network with shared learning and challenges with peers.
      2. Review and gather feedback of service delivery in a professional and confidential setting
      3. Opportunity to discuss current relevant research articles and materials and how they apply to service delivery as well as training opportunities specific to supervised visitation.

      Proposed Peer Review and Mentoring

      The Children’s Justice Center Supervised Visitation Program in Tampa, the __(name of center)__________ in (city)________ and the __(name of center)__________ in (city)________ (host sites) would welcome any other supervised visitation service provider in Florida to come to their location and spend time with the director and staff to see how the program operates. Ideally, a coordination of two to four centers would come to the host site at the same time.
      Each center director named above would also be available to travel to other centers as necessary to provide mentoring. There may be cost associated with travel, depending on the distance and if overnight accommodations are a consideration.
      Peer Review and Mentoring Benefits

      • Give concentrated feedback on your work — where it is falling short of the best practices, and constructive advice on how to make substantive improvements
      • Help you prioritize and focus on what’s most likely to work best, and what’s most important
      • Show you how to customize best practices for your unique situations
      • Encourage you to think more creatively about your program approaches to funding and service delivery
      • Challenge you to experiment, so you can find what genuinely works for your program
      • Provide a framework that keeps you moving forward, instead of getting bogged down
      • Identify ways to work smarter and faster, without burning yourself out
